Chapter Seventeen
JACK
Iâd been downstairs when Christian texted me, asking to pick up Aiden and Andrewâs dry cleaning. Since he was asking for help, I didnât question it and rushed to do as he asked. It took longer than I liked, since I had to bring it to Aidenâs place before heading back to work, and people kept giving me funny looks because I was running around like a crazy person.
I was hoping when I got back that Christian would be in a better mood and things would at least go back to normal. But apparently our new normal was him avoiding me like last week. He handed me a bunch of files to bring to Aiden and darted out of the room faster than I could blink. With a heavy sigh, I took a second to take my desk phone off of do not disturb and start my computer before gathering the files and heading to Aidenâs office.
I definitely shouldâve knocked first. I blamed the fact that I was in my head about what was happening with Christian. That and I never expected Aiden and Andrew to hook up at the office. They were too serious for that kind of thing. So when I pushed the door open and lifted my gaze, I froze like an idiot.
Andrew looked horrified, but it was Aidenâs reaction that scared the hell out of me. His eyes shifted, âglowing with outrage, and an inhuman bellow rattled the windows. I stumbled back, falling onto my ass, the files scattering across the floor.
My fight-or-flight response was broken, because I couldnât move and I couldnât look away from the predator who had me trapped in his gaze. Not until a clatter caught my attention. Christian burst into our office, his wide eyes taking in what was happening as Aiden pulled away from his mate and advanced on us. Christian didnât freeze like I did, but leapt into action, racing towards me and yanking me to my feet.
âMove! Now!â he shouted, dragging me away and slamming the door behind him. He didnât look back, and he didnât stop, âshoving me out the door. We bypassed the elevator, the door to the stairs flying open so fast it rebounded off the wall loud enough to startle the rest of the people in the office. When I stumbled, Christianâs grip on the back of my jacket tightened.
âDonât stop. Keep moving,â he demanded.
With no clue what was going on, I had no choice but to follow his orders. If I was fired, throwing me out was a bit of an overkill. They couldâve at least let me clear out my desk like a normal person.
We made it to the garage with no injuries, which was surprising considering how fast we were going. I tried looking over my shoulder at Christian, but he nudged me forward again, and I had to watch where I was going or trip over my own feet. He didnât stop until we were at his car. And
